As part of the Creu Cyffro partnership we're working with Theatr Soar and Redhouse Cymru to offer three research and development opportunities for artists living or working in Merthyr Tydfil.

WHATS' ON OFFER?

We will fund three research and development opportunities for three different early career artists to try out new ideas and develop their creative practice in a supportive environment. This includes:

Space for five days in either Theatr Soar or Redhouse Cymru – we can be flexible about timings and will be looking to work with artists for this to take place between August and December 2022.
Producing support from the team at Wales Millennium Centre – including administration in organising the R&D, facilitation, feedback and creative conversation.

A budget to pay for artists, performers, creatives or equipment to support the process – we will develop this with successful applicants depending on the nature and scale of the work.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

This opportunity is for artists living or working in Merthyr. The lead artist needs to have a clear connection to Merthyr Tydfil. We are happy to support people working in any language and will work with applicants to facilitate this.

We are happy to support any kind of performance work. You might be working in any creative discipline, you don’t have to be a theatre maker, dancer or working from a script, you could be a designer, musician, film maker, it doesn’t matter as long as your idea is about collaborating with live performance.

We are looking for people who have a clear idea that they want to explore or develop. This could be a story they want to tell, a new approach to collaboration or maybe pushing the boundaries of your existing practice. It’s not about ‘making a show’ it’s about having a space to develop and we want to understand clearly what you want to achieve during the week.

HOW DO I APPLY?

Please send us some information, no more than two A4 pages or two minutes of audio or film if you prefer. Tell us about you or your group and why you think this is the right opportunity for you. You can apply in Welsh, English or BSL and if you have any other access requirements, please let us know and we will work with you to support an application.

In particular we want to know about the idea you want to explore and develop and what you really want to get out of the time. You can include links to previous work or other information if you want to. Please think about the What we are looking for section when you make your application.

WHAT’S THE PROCESS?

All applications will be reviewed by a member of the WMC producing team, Lis Mclean from Theatr Soar and Lee Davies from Wellbeing Merthyr.

We will shortlist from initial applications based on the criteria in the What Are We Looking For section of this call out.

We will arrange opportunities to meet with the shortlisted applicants to discuss their ideas in more detail and from these conversations we will select three successful artists for the R&D opportunities.

Fel rhan o bartneriaeth Creu Cyffro, mae Canolfan Mileniwm Cymru yn gweithio gyda Theatr Soar a Redhouse Cymru i gynnig tri chyfle ymchwil a datblygu ar gyfer artistiaid sy’n byw neu’n gweithio ym Merthyr Tudful.

BETH SYDD AR GAEL?

Byddwn ni’n ariannu tri chyfle ymchwil a datblygu ar gyfer tri artist gwahanol sydd ar gychwyn eu gyrfa i roi cynnig ar syniadau newydd a datblygu eu harfer creadigol mewn amgylchedd cefnogol. Bydd hyn yn cynnwys:

Gofod am bum diwrnod naill ai yn Theatr Soar neu yn Redhouse Cymru – gallwn ni fod yn hyblyg o ran amseroedd a’r nod fydd gweithio gydag artistiaid rhwng mis Awst a mis Tachwedd 2022.
Cefnogaeth cynhyrchu gan y tîm yng Nghanolfan Mileniwm Cymru – gan gynnwys gweinyddiaeth wrth drefnu’r gwaith ymchwil a datblygu, hwyluso, adborth a sgyrsiau creadigol.
Cyllideb i dalu am artistiaid, perfformwyr, pobl greadigol neu offer i gefnogi’r broses – byddwn yn datblygu hyn gyda’r ymgeiswyr llwyddiannus yn dibynnu ar natur a maint y gwaith.

BETH YDYN NI'N CHWILIO AMDANO?

Mae hwn yn gyfle i artistiaid sy’n byw neu’n gweithio ym Merthyr Tudful. Mae angen i’r prif artist fod â chysylltiad clir â Merthyr Tudful. Rydyn ni’n hapus i gefnogi pobl sy’n gweithio mewn unrhyw iaith a byddwn yn gweithio gydag ymgeiswyr i hwyluso hyn.

Rydyn ni’n hapus i gefnogi unrhyw fath o waith perfformio. Gallwch fod yn gweithio mewn unrhyw ddisgyblaeth greadigol, does dim rhaid i chi fod yn wneuthurwr theatr, yn ddawnsiwr neu’n gweithio o sgript, gallech chi fod yn ddylunydd, yn gerddor, yn wneuthurwr ffilmiau – does dim ots, cyn belled â bod eich syniad yn ymwneud â chydweithio â pherfformiad byw.
