The Emerging Director position is a brilliant opportunity for new directors to spend some time working side by side with more experienced directors, gaining hands on experience and inside knowledge of the creative process behind one of our main productions. The Emerging Director is a full-time role and a key component of the creative team. It requires attendance at all rehearsals, the production week and performances.

The next opportunity to be an Emerging Director will be on BEFORE I LEAVE. A new play with music, written by Tredegar-born poet and playwright Patrick Jones.

Collective memory battles with personal struggles as a choir of men and women living with dementia clash and bond over some of south Wales’ defining stories - including the 1984 miners’ strike. Can the choir provide hope, meaning and solidarity in a society facing food banks, social welfare cuts and inequality?

BEFORE I LEAVE will be a funny, moving and ultimately uplifting production featuring covers of well-known songs by artists ranging from Tom Jones to the Sex Pistols, with new music by Nicky Wire and James Dean Bradfield of Manic Street Preachers.

Dates:

As with all Emerging Director positions, attendance during the rehearsal and production period is essential. There may be opportunities to be involved in production meetings prior to the official start date of the project, plus, should the project go on to have a revival or tour, opportunities to support these future versions of the work.

Rehearsals commence: 25^th Apr

Tech week commences: 23^rd May

Previews: 27^th - 30^th May

Press night: 31^st May, 7pm

Post show talk: 2^nd and 8^th Jun

Matinee performance: 11^th June, 2.30pm

Final performance: 11^th Jun

Venue: Sherman Theatre, Cardiff

National Theatre Wales are offering a £2500 bursary for this position. NTW will strive to help find the best solution to travel and accommodation if you are not based locally.
