Call for proposals for Assembly 2 - West Wales

After an exciting first call for proposals and an amazing voting phase, National Theatre Wales are currently accepting submissions for ideas for 'Assembly 2'.

The new ‘Assembly’ is developing into democratically elected projects to be delivered across the breadth & width of Wales.

The process requires local people, companies & groups to suggest project ideas, from which three will be shortlisted.  The shortlisted ideas will then go through a two week online public voting period, the idea to receive the most votes will then be actioned.  Abdul Shayek, National Theatre Wales creative associate along with three of the six Assembly performers and three production staff will start a month long process culminating in a 5 day intensive rehearsal period leading to the event which will take place.

We are now delighted to announce that we are accepting submissions for ideas for Assembly 1.

What National Theatre Wales can offer to make your idea a reality

1 week intensive rehearsal period leading to the event

3 trained performers/ artists (Assembly Performers Team)

1 Director

A production team consisting of a Production Manager, Stage Manager and a technician

A small production budget

We want you to send in ideas for a project you may have that highlights local issues and an event which will aim to create some debate around the issue.  We are looking for ideas which may take place in local unexpected spaces.  Below is a mock application to get you thinking:

Mock proposal:

Local hotel/ pub is keen to preserve local wildlife and natural beauty surrounding it.  However there is a local oil refinery, there are concerns around the impact it is having on the local environment.

The hotel/ pub understands that the refinery is an important contributor to the local economy, however it is also threatening the environment.  They want the ‘Assembly’ to create an event that will highlight the issues & facilitate a conversation on how both can co-exist.

Local resources they can offer is a Lighthouse, their hotel, access to the open fields surrounding the area & a local group who deliver ghost tours.

The current proposal for ideas need to take place in one of the following West Wales areas:

Carmarthenshire

Ceredigion

Pembrokeshire

Swansea

To request an application form or further information please get in touch with Abdul Shayek – abdulshayek@nationaltheatrewales.org

Closing date for proposals is 10:00am Monday 12th March
