Call for proposals for Mid Wales Assembly

National Theatre Wales’ Assembly is developing into democratically- elected projects to be delivered across the length and breadth of Wales.

After an exciting first Assembly held in Adamsdown and Splott, Cardiff, and the second to be delivered in Carmarthen suggested by Karl Williams, National Theatre Wales is inviting submissions for ideas for Assembly 3 (mid Wales).

For this, we’re asking local people, companies and groups to suggest project ideas, from which three will be shortlisted. The shortlisted ideas will then go through a two-week online public voting period, and the idea that receives the most votes will then be delivered. Abdul Shayek, National Theatre Wales’ Creative Associate, will then start the month-long development process, with three of the six Assembly performers and three production staff, culminating in a five-day intensive rehearsal period leading to a one-day event.

National Theatre Wales can offer great support to help you realize your idea, including:

  • a one-week intensive rehearsal period leading to the event;

  • three trained performers/artists (Assembly Performers Team);

  • a director;

  • a production team consisting of a Production Manager, Stage

    Manager and a technician; and

  • a small production budget

We want you to send in ideas for a project you have in mind, that highlights local issues and aims to create some debate. We are looking for ideas could take place in unexpected local spaces. Below is a mock-application to get you thinking:

Mock proposal:
Local hotel/pub is keen to preserve local wildlife and natural beauty surrounding it. However, there is an oil refinery nearby, and there are concerns around the impact it is having on the local environment.
The hotel/pub wants the Assembly to create an event that will highlight the issues and facilitate a conversation on how both can co-exist.

Local resources they can offer include a lighthouse, their hotel, access to the open fields surrounding the area and a local group who deliver ghost tours.

The current proposal for ideas needs to take place in or close to Powys.

To request an application form or for further information, please get in touch with Abdul Shayek – abdulshayek@nationaltheatrewales.org

Closing date for proposals is 12:00hrs 27th April 2012
