CASTING CALL:

Mathilde Lopez & James Tyson are looking for a female performer for a new play from Hong Kong to be developed and presented at Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff in January - February 2013.

"Who Killed the Elephant?" is a play by Vee Leong developed from a short story by George Orwell which explores authority, censorship and freedom from the context of Hong Kong's relationship to the Chinese state. The original Cantonese version of the play produced by On and On Theatre (Hong Kong) opened in Hong Kong and Taiwan earlier this year.

The piece directed by Mathilde Lopez will be a central part of "Between Text and Performance (Hong Kong-Wales)", a collaborative interdisciplinary theatre project focusing on translation that will be presented at Chapter Arts Centre from 7th-9th February 2013

Rehearsals will be from 7th January to 7th February 2013 at Chapter Arts Centre. We are looking for:

A female performer, approximately 20-25 years old, black/white/asian/mixed race with singing/musical ability to play a policeman newly enrolled, a crowd and an elephant

You would need to be interested in new writing and devising in order to explore fully a new piece of work, conceptually, physically and musically.

The auditions will take place in Chapter on Wednesday 5th 2-5pm & Thursday 6th December 2012, 2-9pm

Fee meets Equity minimum. Project supported by Arts Council of Wales.

Hi Mathilde,

Unfortunately my computer kept opening up a blank screen for this blog-and now it works and I may have scuppered my chance to audition! If on the off chance, you have a free slot tomorrow I would very much appreciate it. Please view my spotlight link, and if you wish you can contact me on here or my email at fry.holly1@gmail.com.

Best wishes

Holly Fry
