Choreographer / composer workshop - Groundwork Pro at the Atrium - 5th and 6th May

Open to all choreographers, composers, musicians and movers.

Attuning to collaboration’

Groundwork are thrilled to announce we were successful in gaining support from Tŷ Cerdd to run a 2-day workshop led by composer Jamie McCarthy and choreographer Joanna Young, bringing together choreographers, composers, musicians and movers.

This professional development event will bring practitioners of these art forms together, offering a valuable opportunity for artistic exchange and collaboration.

The workshop will respond to the experience and needs of the participants, aiming to dismantle traditional hierarchies often associated between dancers and choreographers, musicians and composers. It’s a space to experiment and explore ways of being together in a supportive environment. The workshop offers many tools, tasks and approaches to collaboration that values each individuals practice and inspires new ways of seeing, hearing, and being together.

Over the weekend we will explore ways of ‘checking in’ with a collaborator; facilitate multiple ways for sound and movement to come together; and investigate new ways of seeing and experiencing each other’s practice. We will propose methods for devising scores that can be interpreted through both sound and movement within different spaces and places.

Jamie and Joanna have many years experience as makers and workshop facilitators, both together and individually. They share a passionate interest in collaborative and inter-disciplinary work as well as the facilitation of creative process in others. Their approach to facilitating is inclusive, generous and responsive.

We don’t aim to proscribe any particular way in which you ‘should’ collaborate, but work from where you’re at to give you a greater confidence in working with others. We hope the workshops begin to lay foundations for potential on going collaborations and to explore ways for meaningful collaborations and rich communications.
