The last part of the first day of the conference is spent in small groups generating research proposals and questions. The subject of the project is the 1943 Propaganda film Silent Village. Our group is charged with the task of generating a research methodology and three questions using 'Place' as a starting point for research.

Andrew applies his extensive research skills and uses his Iphone to access Wikipedia.

Lidice (German: Liditz) is a village in the Czech Republic just north-west of Prague. It is built on the site of a previous village of the same name which, as part of the Nazi created Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, was, as per orders directly from Heinrich Himmler, completely destroyed by German forces in reprisal for the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich in the late spring of 1942. On June 10, 1942, all 192 men over 16 years of age from the village were murdered on the spot by the Germans in a much publicised atrocity. The rest of the population were sent to Nazi concentration camps where many women and nearly all the children were killed.

The town has been obliterated but lives on in name through a series of towns, cities and allies that carry its name throughout the world.

We couldn't agree a research question and during the feedback managed to avoid contributing any sentences that ended in question marks.

The others have left the room now. There is no reception. Andrew has gone in search of some. Everyone else has migrated to the bar. I will speak briefly about my project for the first time tomorrow afternoon. I have my 5 minute soundscape...

Night Night!
