Coreo Cymru in partnership with Theatr Iolo and Nofit State Circus

Development Commission - Call to artists

Chapter’s creative producer programme Coreo Cymru in partnership with Theatr Iolo and Nofit State Circus are delighted to announce that applications are now being accepted from dance artists, circus and theatre practitioners and their collaborators for its Development Commissions Programme 2015.

The programme aims to provide a number of different progression routes within the development and creation of the work including artistic and business mentoring and a number of presentation opportunities placing the work in front of audiences, contextualised at each stage of its development and seeking audience feedback. The aim of this programme is to create high quality dance suitable for presentation at British Dance Edition in March 2016 and to provide the foundations for extensive venue touring within Wales and beyond.

The Development Commissions programme aims to support the creation of genre specific works; new circus/dance and work for children & families. Selected works will be expected to demonstrate a strong dance element within the production and the potential to develop the work for a full-length touring production.

The initial stage of the programme will offer two projects from each genre with awards of up to £4,500 to support the creation of a two –week rehearsal period taking place in June and present a ‘work in progress’ (maximum 20 minutes in duration) at Wales Dance Platform on Sunday 28th June 2015. Studio facilities in Cardiff, mentoring and travel costs will be provided, additional to the awards.

Following the work in progress presentation one project from each genre will be offered the opportunity to develop the work further for a small tour in Autumn 2015. Awards of up to £25,000 will be offered to each project plus studio facilities in Cardiff for a five-week creation period and one-week production/premiere in a fully resourced venue. The programme also offers artistic and business mentoring, marketing budgets and some travel costs.

Selected choreographers will be expected to participate in the proposed Fit 4 Business UK wide programme that accompanies British Dance Edition and receive further mentoring support to match artists with producers. This programme along with British Dance Edition is pending selection procedures and additional funding support.

Project applicants will be expected to consist of at least one Wales based professional, either choreographer or main collaborator who have created at least three performance projects or have at least five years professional experience. Mentoring and some project management support will be offered, however successful applicants will be expected to manage their own projects and budget awards.

Submissions will close at 5pm on the Friday 17th April, shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview on Friday 24th April at Chapter, Cardiff. Travel support will be offered to applicants traveling from outside the Cardiff area.
