Director needed for collaboration (Arts Council of Wales application)

Hello thanks for clicking.

Recently I was lucky enough to perform a preview of my one man play 'Switzerland' at Volcano Theatre in Swansea where I work as a Welsh Language Development Officer. The preview was directed by the Artistic Director of Volcano , Paul Davies and I'm really pleased how it turned out. The preview included me climbing ladders like they were mountains, hanging off lighting rigs, and soaking a lucky audience member by shaking my wet hair at them ;) So it was a very non-literal telling of the play.

The words in the piece are quite 'wordy' but they are literal to the story. I require a director to work with the literacy of my words but spinning them into an edgy and unique performance. Theatre shouldn't be too literal afterwards. I want to make the audience work.

Now, however I plan to apply for an Arts Council of Wales grant where I will be looking for a director to sign up with me as the actor-writer. After having meetings with representatives from The Arts Council where I was advised on the best way for me to go about applying for a grant it was agreed that I would need a co-collaborator to join the process with me. In my case, I would require a director.

A bit about the play

The play is semi-autobiographical and focuses on unemployment in the Arts but taking the topic and making light of it in a fun, comical and physical way. The play is a one man show but not like other typical one man shows, more physical, more demanding and more risky.

A bit about me

I am a trained actor, trained at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (1 year), and then obtaining a BA in Acting and Global Theatre from Regents School of Drama London, where I also was lucky to win a Kevin Spacey Scholarship which enabled me to study at PACE University New York also.

Since graduating I've been a non-working actor and a working actor. A break here and there, you know how it is. Unfortunately since returning to South Wales I realize I hardly know anyone in the industry in Wales, hence this callout.

To get myself out there more I am writing a lot, hence this project.

It is very close to my heart and I would love to work with someone on it and for the working partnership to prosper.

Thanks for your time.

Hi Marc - good luck with your application. It sounds like a fun piece.

There's a 'Creative' group on the Community that you could get in touch with. THat's where the Director's tend to hang out.

You could also approach directors after seeing there work to get a sense of what they do. There is a lot of work on at the moment.
