Director of "The Devil Inside Him" Trailer.

I’m Ryan Andrews director of The Devil Inside Him trailer, I work mainly in genre film and have a distinct style. I am currently in pre production for my fist feature film to be shot in 3D “Elfie Hopkins and the Gammons” to be distributed by Sony and vertigo film. This May I will also be shooting “Jerusalem” starring Ray Winstone as William Blake. My previous works include, Family picnic for which I won the IMS award for best director and soon to be aired Beast hunters a BBC mini web show Starring James Corden.

The idea behind the trailer was to convey the tone of John Osborne’s play (The Devil Inside Him) buy focusing on the main protagonist (Huw), and his conflicting emotion within. The trailer is a reflection of the sprit of the play into our time.

It was a privilege to be asked to be involved in this project.

I guess I should repeat what I put on the YouTube page for the video:

"I really love what you guys are doing with the use of the internet/YouTube/Twitter/social media etc. It shows a really good grasp of the current swathe of entertainment and a great knowledge of how to use all these aspects to gain audience and bring people back to the theatre."

And that's just how I feel about how NTW have grasped this marketing concept. Nevermind about how good the trailer is. It is stunningly shot and conceived. James' comment regarding the cost is important, but if there is proof of it bringing in audience numbers and conveying a message of what NTW is about in the wider scheme of things, then I would see it as an essential brand marketing cost.

I LOVED IT!

It also makes me feel not so bad about how much time I spend online Social Networking, which can lead to "Proscrastination": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJ0iZEveHng

Film-style trailers for theatre productions is an excellent idea, as is demonstrated by this, for a play that I feel I know pretty well.

The pros are that it's new and more exciting than the regular e-flyers that we often have to mock up at home by ourselves and, affords a much better opportunity to convey the stylistic approach that a director is taking.

The cons will always be to do with hard cash.

Wider questions are to do with studio facilities and their availability, as well as finding film-makers who're willing to engage with the production company/director in creating something that, at pre-publicity stage, is a work of art in it's own right. You, Elen and the NTW team have clearly got it right for this trailer.

Can I suggest that you have a look at John Norton's page on this site & check out his Give It A Name company's website that is hosted on You Tube? A very smart move, I thought.

I hope we have another chance to discuss this. James.
