On Thursday 2nd July, we have got one of our first National Theatre Wales events and we would like you to take part.
It's called
SANDPIT and it is organised by us, with Hide and Seek, a London-based company run by
Alex Fleetwood.
Sandpit, like its name suggests, is a place where people can come together and play games and have playful experiences.
Sandpit is a play with a difference, where the 'audience' are the participants at the heart of the creative process and the action. It is an interactive show where traditional theatre meets with social gaming and new technology.
Some of the games involve one player, others need 30 participants. Some games are theatrical, others are experiential, others are emotional, others are competitive, others are cognitive, others are problem-solving, others are physical and involve running around Cardiff gathering objects in a city-wide treasure hunt*
*This example I have just made up to try and describe the sort of thing that could happen - and this is where
YOU, the
National Theatre Wales community come in!
We need people to come to Sandpit to play the games.
We need people to create the games and activities to be played at Sandpit.
We need people who are interested in this and already play games.
We need people who have never done this before but would be interested in coming to try it out, possibly, if they knew more and knew someone else who was going...
...I fit into this last category!
It's a great way to get involved in National Theatre Wales - as a creative and as a participant. Whether you want to play the games or whether you want to make one and run it for us.
It's also important to know that we will be commissioning an individual artist or a company to create and run a show for us based on Sandpit: a combination of theatre and games.
This commission could come out of an idea that you create and develop through Sandpit, so it's definitely NOT an opportunity to miss.
Please add to this blog post - or message me - if you want to get involved. Tell me if you are a participant, a game-maker, or both. Also tell me if you want to know more and aren't sure how you want to get involved!
I will be adding to this blog to keep you updated with the progress of this event/show/game/social event as it comes together.
Please come and play!
