Having been lucky enough to be a part of several professional productions over recent months, its safe to say Quarantine's production of 'English' in collaboration with National Theatre Wales gave me a detailed insight into the raw, organic processes necessary when devising a piece from scratch. The piece tells the story of deaf performer Jonny Cotsen as he tells the audience in honest detail about his life and learning to communicate in a world of sound. Having observed the piece in its crucial final few days I have witnessed the creative dynamics within Quarantine. Although each member of the company has a specific role and responsibilities relating to that role, all members provide a creative contribution to the overall piece making the company unique in its devising techniques.
