The Europeans

Presented by Vista Theatre. By Howard Barker The Europeans dramatises the conflict between public duty and private suffering, projected against the backdrop of war between the Christian and Turkish Empires in the 17th Century.

The Siege of Vienna, 1683. The Ottoman Turks have finally been defeated. The hero of the Siege, General Starhemberg, prepares to welcome back the victorious returning Monarchy.

Meanwhile Katrin, a teenage victim of a war atrocity, prepares to give testimony to a corrupt priest. The Emperor attempts to rebuild the city and its culture but is soon drawn into conflict with Starhemberg and Katrin.

The Europeans is a powerful, poetic and exhilarating experience brought to you by students on the BA(Hons) Performing Arts degree at the University of Wales, Newport.
