CONFERENCE OF THE BIRDS

http://confofbirds.tumblr.com/makeithappen

The Conference of the Birds is a Context Oriented Theatre adaptation, by The Republic of the Imagination, of the 12th Century Persian poem by Farid Ud-Din Attar.  The poem describes the journey of a group of birds through seven valleys to the castle of the magical bird called the Simorgh.  But it is also an allegory representing the sufi path towards liberation.  Our adaptation progresses from classical to participative to immersive theatre, taking the audience on a journey inward to know ourselves so that we can explore the secret of our existence.

The production is structured so that the company takes up an artistic residency in a space to which it will adapt the performance.  The 7 company members train a group of 16 - 20 local artists in Context Oriented Theatre over 6 days and then together they perform the show 12 times over two weeks.  Ending with a weekend debrief for trainees.  Due to the nature of the two-hour performances audiences are limited to 25 per performance.

The basic fee for this will be 10,000 Euros + accommodation and subsistence for the seven members of the company.

Further performances or a regional tour can be programmed at a negotiated extra cost.

The Republic of the Imagination is an international company and network of artists dedicated to the research and practice of Context Oriented Theatre under the direction of Iwan Brioc, the originator of this approach.  Those trained during the residency are invited to join the network and are supported to develop the work further in their own country and participate in network projects.
