JMK Trust and Sherman Cymru's Directors Group

JMK Trust and Sherman Cymru's Directors Group

We are thrilled to be launching a new Cardiff based Directors Group in collaboration with The JMK Trust. The aim of the directors group is to facilitate an ongoing network that develops young and emerging directors and theatre makers. This will be done through numerous free skills workshops, networking events and access to mentoring and support throughout the year. There will be opportunities to work in both Welsh and English.

Members of this group will be eligible to apply for assistant director positions on future Sherman Cymru productions, with the first being an opportunity to work alongside Rachel O'Riordan on her Main House autumn production of a classic text. This will be supported by the Richard Carne Trust.

The Directors Group will begin with an introduction session on 2nd May 2015, 2pm - 6pm. This session will:

  • Create a first opportunity for directors and theatre-makers to meet here at the Sherman.
  • Explain the purpose of the scheme in more detail, including the Carne Trust Bursary and eligibility for it.
  • Explain and answer questions about the JMK Award itself.
  • Help us to assess levels of interest in the scheme and how we can tailor it.
  • Lisa Spirling, Artistic Co-ordinator of the JMK Trust will run a practical directing session focusing on rehearsal process and our artistic journeys.

The group is open to new and emerging directors from across Wales. To become a member of the Directors Group please send 100 words expressing your interest to directors.group@shermancymru.co.uk by 10am on the 27th April 2015.
