National Theatre Wales are seeking an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about the arts and community development and would like to develop their own skills within these fields. Their primary role will be to assist in the development and production of the De Gabay (The Song) project. The project will focus primarily on the Somali community of Butetown in Cardiff. However, the involvement of the wider Butetown community and other Somali communities in the UK and aboard are central to its success. The successful applicant will also work closely on the TEAM programme, which looks at engaging with communities throughout Wales

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • To assist with NTWs TEAM Co-ordinator to develop and oversee all aspects of outreach and engagement for the project
  • To assist in engaging with local communities, groups, networks and individuals in the Butetown area
  • To help identify and actively target partners from within the Somali community both in the UK and abroad
  • To assist in organising events, give presentations and raise awareness of De Gabay
  • To contribute to NTW’s online community website
  • To attend meetings as required with both NTW core team and project staff
  • To assist in the creative, techincal and backstage aspects of production



Skills required:

Previous experience of community engagement and development
An understanding of how to engage with diverse communities and audiences
A link to or knowledge of the relevant areas or communities
Excellent communication skills
Excellent organisational skills
An interest in NTW and its work
The ability to speak Somali would be beneficial, though not essential
