Hello I’m Sophie McKeand a poet from north Wales living in Wrecsam. I’ve been involved with NTW previously on the What Does a Welsh Person Sound Like? project as well as taking part in the first ever Big Democracy event in Bangor earlier this year.

I’m delighted to be joining TEAM panel. My aim is to encourage and support NTW events happening in north-east Wales over the coming months. I have worried in the past that much of the creative and artistic attention in Wales is focused on the south so I’m delighted to have the opportunity to do something about it!

I work full-time as a freelance/self-employed poet and workshop facilitator and believe it’s important for artists to engage with their community rather than existing in an ‘ivory tower’ of their own creating. Encouraging communities to engage with The Arts (including poetry and the spoken word) as much as possible is something I care greatly about.

This year (2014) I’ve worked on projects such as Literature Wales’s Developing Dylan programme, The Hay Festival Scribblers Tour and the Wales Millennium Centre’s Under the Spelling Wall project as well as being the visiting writer for a number of Sgwad Sgwennu projects across north Wales.

Dw i’n dysgu Cymraeg ar hyn o bryd, a dw i wrth fy modd efo’r iaith. Mae hi’n iaith brydferth ac yn farddonol iawn! Dw i newydd ddechrau Cwrs Uwch yn Wrecsam a dw i eisiau defnyddio mwy o Gymraeg yn fy ngwaith. Felly, a wnewch chi siarad ac ysgrifennu ata i yn Gymraeg os gwelwch yn dda?

I’m really looking forward to getting more involved with NTW TEAM and if anybody would like to discuss a TEAM project for this region that I can help support then please get in touch!
