Firstly, For those of you who don't know already, let me surmise 'Assembly'.
Over the last year, National Theatre Wales, along with Catherine & Devinda travelled all around Wales asking questions to members of the public about their area. The aim was to to discover/create the ultimate question that could be answered through an organised event called 'Assembly'. Assembly that was a plethora of mini performances and discussions that reflected the answers and ideas of that particular town or area. Some examples had been "What sort of Ghosts haunt Newport?' or 'Is Aberystwyth the end of the Road?". For each Assembly, a group of enthusiastic young people would be invited to be involved in TEAM, an organisation within National Theatre Wales that helps to encourage and develop the skills of young creative's who are eager to get involved.
After months of travelling, meeting new people and asking many many questions, this Saturday is the arrival of the MEGA ASSEMBLY. This time it's us TEAM members that will have to get our creative thinking caps on!
MEGA ASSEMBLY is an opportunity for many of the TEAM members near and far who have been involved over the last year to meet, discuss, share ideas and munch on a bit of cake! It's also a key event that will allow NTW to gain an insight into how TEAM has affected everyone as individuals and also their communities, so that they can continue developing all these wonderful opportunities for year 2. How else can they keep up the good work eh?
I was very lucky that Catherine, Devinda and Abdul allowed me to join in on the 'rehearsal' process of the MEGA ASSEMBLY, and from what I have seen today- I am very excited about the result! Not only because I get to observe these guys in 'action', but also I have met some interesting young artists that I many not have had the opportunity to meet before!
There is such a variety in the key performers that I found both intriguing and inspiring. All from 4 different areas of Wales- Aberystwyth, Swansea, Butetown and Newport and it isn't only their community identities that is engaging but their regional and international accents! Each performer has been actively involved in TEAM and I am looking forward to hearing how NTW has really encouraged them to build their skills and confidence over the last year, as well as hearing from the other TEAM members and their experiences. I know that I too will have plenty to share! All four of them have been working hard, alongside Catherine and Abdul to create performances that reflect answers to the key NTW questions that will be put to the participants this Saturday. Beginning the day with a session of 'mind mapping', some of the key words that arose in this discussion process was 'support' 'connections' 'confidence' and 'purpose'. The group felt that NTW offers everyone an opportunity to be involved in something new and exciting that they may not have been able to get involved with before. Their performances this Saturday will reflect some of these ideas- but you'll HAVE to come along to see how!
So, Before I give too much away, I hope that all you TEAM members are counting down the hours until saturday- as you are in for a treat!
