New Event Africa : THANKS TO ALL WHO SUPPORTED THEATRE STRIPPED

Thanks to all who came to the two events on Friday night for Theatre Stripped 1.618. Over a 100 people attended.

We raised a very good sum for Caryl Churchills Gaza charity.

We were amazed by the generosity of individuals.

The evening was a huge success and we gathered some excellent feedback sheets so thankyou for all your comments.

Rachel & I have just come back from London and watched Blasted - I was left stunned, traumatised and shakey after finally seeing it live and we also saw The Childrens Monologues a huge charity event by Dramatic Need and we got to see Danny Boyle who directed it.

Any artist can go to Africa and work with children and communities through the charity Dramatic Need. If you want to do something worthwhile get in touch with them.

Based on our on going passion and desire to contribute to charity and humanitarian needs we will be bringing you a new collection of new shorts from Africa in the new year.

We currently have a contact gathering stories at present. She is working with children in Tanzania and Zanzibar.

But this time we will find the happy stories to bring to you as well, as Friday was very intense - it must be said.It would be great to say that as writers it came from our imagination but unfortunately everything we did show was based on truth.

War is a very complex area to explore and we are getting the feeling we are all 'Warred Out'. The research you have to endure and the photographs - well we just have no comprehension... but we must continue our efforts because as Danny Boyle said for every audience member watching they will hopefully go away and feel inspired to do something.

We must not forget the victims of war.

Thanks to all the cast Kenny and Sarah and Chapter for making Theatre Stripped happen.

If anyone would like to contribute to the next evening of shorts through writing, acting, funding etc please get in touch.

Also, I just wanted to add that in some of our feedback an audience member said that by the end of Theatre Stripped s/he was left with a lot of emotion and didn't know where to go with it. They felt like clapping was not the right thing to do perhaps silence was better but this is exactly how I felt too and I had written and directed pieces. As directors and writers what do we do - how do we resolve these situations? Perhaps we can't because it is ongoing. Afghanistan and the Iraq situation still continues and that is why throughout the shorts there was a repeated line 'And it continues'. On Saturday night after Sarah Kane's piece the audience did not clap for approx.5mins after. I felt a whole mix of emotions and could not leave the auditorium until I felt I had gathered myself together. Etiquette dictates that we clap but what if its not right to?...because the material is too profound, intense, emotional...answers on a postcard...? But I suspect there will be no resolve to this type of theatre as in the real world we can't even find a resolve to conflict. We can't tie it all up in a pretty ribbon and say 'ta da, and they all lived happily ever after'. So I will leave you with this question - what can we do? - do what I did saturday night and go to the bar and have a stiff drink and think I will do something...even if its a small.
