Hello gang,

I'm in New York at the moment and will be until June. Has anyone got any tips for theatre companies/shows to dig out? I know John mentioned Forum theatre in another blog, I'm going to try and see if they've got anything on. Anyone else????

Also, could Tom and Carl fix it so that if anyone ever starts a blog with 'So' that they get swine flu in their fingers? Thanks.

So.... (sorry couldn't resist)
It;s Foundry Theatre Tim, nof Forum. They are based in the East Village and the Artistic Director is my good friend Melanie Joseph. See if you can find Hip Hop Theatre Artist and MC Baba Israel who is taking over my old job at Contact (leaving New York for Manchester - that's how happening Manchester is these days!). Another company I used to work with is Mabou Mines, who are based in the PS 122 building, look for my friends Ruth Maleczech and Sharon Fogarty there. And the PS 122 (aka Performance Space 122) which is now run by Aussie producer Vallejo Gantner, and is still one of the key centres for new performance after about 25 years in the game. For a more full theatre experience, New York Theatre Workshop has a great track record discovering and showing new writers and directors, and of course the Public Theatre (aka the New York Shakespeare festival) despite its long Shakespeare Associations also does a wide range of contemporary work, not least in its bar space, Joe'd Pub. But probably the new stuff is happening mainly in Broolklyn. A bar crawl through Williamsburg will usually end up with you discovering a new band or poet or performance artist. Be nice to them they are fragile things. And enjoy!
