National Theatre Wales wants to foster new directing talent. We believe that one of the most effective ways to develop as a director is by spending time in the rehearsal room observing and supporting more experienced individuals. Therefore, during our third year of work, we are again offering opportunities for emerging directors to become involved in the following shows:

Praxis Makes Perfect

Tonypandemonium

Silly Kings

Each emerging director will be given a fee of £2,000 and the successful candidates will need to commit to full-time attendance during rehearsals (generally four weeks, plus the opening week).

To apply, please send us your CV and a letter explaining why an NTW Emerging Director role would be the right thing for your development. Also identify up to two shows that you would be interested in involvement with, and explain why. (We will only offer successful candidates one show, but this information will help us to match you to the right person.) Please provide names of two referees who know your work and let us know of any dates that you would not be available to take up a bursary. Please also indicate any connections you have to Wales: NTW is focused on the development of theatre and theatre-makers in Wales.

We will work with the shows’ directors to match them with emerging directors based on the information received from you. In some cases we may arrange interviews with the directors of shows for a small number of candidates.

All applications should be submitted by email to emerge@nationaltheatrewales.org. The deadline for applications is midday on Monday 4th March, and we aim to make appointments over the next few months. We may take longer to match emerging directors to the later shows, but we will keep in touch with candidates about developments.

Full information on all shows, including directors and dates is available at nationaltheatrewales.org; if you've got any questions feel free to send me a message or give me a call.

Good luck

Hi Tamar & James,

I'm not at NTW anymore so can't give you any info about whether the scheme will run next year. Best person to ask is Simon Coates, who is Creative Associate there now.

Hi,

This is a fantastic initiative and, as Tamar mentioned, if it is running again this year I would love to be involved!

Hello! Will you be running this program next year too - applications in March 2014?

Thanks,

Tamar
