ABOUT US

We are a highly committed team with a passion for teaching and learning and endeavouring to ensure that all members of our school community can develop to their full potential. We have such incredible children and it gives us great pleasure to see them flourish and make such excellent progress both academically and socially as they move through the school. You will be working with a mixed ability Year 5 class of 29 pupils. They are a happy and friendly class and look forward to the experience.

THE TASK

"Can the use of Puppeteering develop the oral and written vocabulary of our Year 5 pupils?"

We are looking for two Creative Practitioners – a puppeteer / prop maker and a filmmaker.

PUPPETEER / PROP MAKER (10 days)

The pupils and class teacher want to be inspired by their class topic on the Egyptians creating characters and stories around the theme.  We would like to create puppets and masks with the children and bring their stories to life whilst developing their literacy skills. The class teacher is trained in drama so will use her expertise in this area alongside the Creative Practitioner.

FILM MAKER (4 days)

We would like to use a filmmaker to deliver a one day masterclass with the children and class teacher on how to use the schools iPads effectively to film the process. The filmmaker would also be required at a later date to film the children’s stories (possibly using special effects / green screen) and edit the clips (the process and the final film)

AIMS OF THE PROJECT  

• To extend the children’s oral and written vocabulary.
• Fire up the children’s imagination to tell stories creatively.
• To immerse the children in every aspect of the project.
• To pass skills onto the class teacher and work collaboratively.
• To continue to develop our skills and strategies for Talk for Write.

PUPIL VOICE

Our year 5 pupils would like someone who:

5. someone who can share their skills with us
6. Is calm and patient.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

1. We would love to hear from creative practitioners who have a dynamic and inspirational approach to develop and creative learning.
2. Willing to be trained in the principles of Creative Learning through the Arts, the High Functioning Classroom and the 5 Creative Habits of mind.
3. Experience of working with Key Stage 2 children.
4. Experience of working in puppeteering / mask making and filmmaking.
5. Have a passion for bringing stories to life.
6. Someone who keeps trying and to help us become more persistent.

KEY DATES

• Monday 7^th December at 4pm - Deadline for applications
• Tuesday 8^th December - Shortlisting
• Friday 11^th December - Interviews (Options for Zoom or social distancing)
• Week commencing 4^th January 2021- Detailed planning with both practitioners
• Friday 15^th January 2021 - Project plan to be submitted
• 26^th or 27^th January - Creative Practitioner training (if haven’t previously attended this)
• Week beginning 1^st February 2021- Project Implementation begins
• 30^th April 2021 - Project ends
• Week beginning 3^rd May - Evaluation and evidence

THE FEE

The fee is up to £2,500 for the puppeteer / £1,000 for the Filmmaker. This includes planning, implementation and evaluation. Travel expenses to be negotiated at interview. The guide rate is £250 a full day and £125 half day. There is an additional budget of £1,000 for materials.
