Rhiannon presents The 2012 Legacy Project at Resolution Festival, The Place on 25 January 2014

What is the legacy?

My name is Rhiannon and I was an audience leader, in all four ceremonies, ......... I have dreams about a fifth.

My name is Colin and I was a working man in the industrial revolution - I still wear my costume in public.

My name is Toni and I was a drummer...I am still living in the Olympic bubble and wish to stay there.

My name is Lettice.......last summer showed me how much I can fit into my life. It needn't be just wake up, go to work, have dinner, go to bed and repeat.

My name is Hannah. I lead out the Independent Olympic Athletes team in both the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Olympics. One of them was a South Sudanese refugee and a survivor of the civil war. I still keep in touch with him and continue to follow his amazing achievements. He was and continues to be an inspiration to many.

My name is Amanda. I was the flag escort for Fiji.  I walked into the stadium alongside an athlete. I still receive phone calls and messages from him, learning about what the Paralympics has done for his life.

There is a lot of discussion of the sporting legacy of 2012 but The 2012 Legacy Project is concerned with the ceremony performers' legacy of 2012.  The above quotes are taken from people who performed in the Olympic/Paralympic 2012 ceremonies.

Many ceremonies performers are involved in creating their own legacies of 2012 by the continued volunteering and supporting of community and charitable causes.  This show both celebrates and highlights impact that 2012 had on these performers.

About the show

15,000 volunteers.  4 Olympic/Paralympic ceremonies.  Housewives, teachers, bankers, became drummers, dancers, nurses, and workers of the Industrial Revolution. 40 ceremonies performers explore how they live on, now 2012 is over.

The show will be performed on the evening of 25 January 2014 at Resolution at The Place.

The Legacy is a contemporary dance performance which explores how the performers are coping, or not, more than a year on from the greatest shows on Earth. The performance will feature performers from London 2012 ceremonies in their original costumes and a collection of confessions and memories.

Not only did the Olympics provide performers with an incredible stage, it also created performers. Suddenly housewives, teachers, students and merchant bankers became drummers and the workers of the Industrial Revolution. Suddenly their wardrobes were filled with brightly coloured bowler hats, an odd shoe collection, and an array of props and Olympic memorabilia.

The Legacy contains both touching and comical confessions of the all-consuming lives of the London 2012 performers during the intense and secretive rehearsals as well as exploring their coping strategies with life after. It explores the psychology of the team and the trauma of its breakup after the show is all over.
