This is one of the highlights of the 2012 Fest for me - at 8.12am on Friday everyone in the united nations of Britain (we should be called that, shouldn't we, much better than being a United Kingdom) is invited to ring a bell, any bell, for 3 minutes. It's the v simple gorgeous idea of Martin Creed and you can share your images and stories on his site: http://www.allthebells.com/
I shall be ringing my bike bell.
Photos from Peace Camp look beautiful and haunting too. And I'm longing for Nowhere Island to dock. I think there will be some very transformative, simple, symbolic and lasting happenings this summer and I love that so many are rooted in connecting people and places, often out under the sky...

It will be difficult to take this respectfully having seen its commissioning process featured as The Big Bong on last night's hilarious Twenty Twelve.
I wonder why you would wish to exclude the people of Northern Ireland from this experience in spite of Martin Creed's inclusive invitation to them.
yes Friday! I will amend the blog title...
I love this man. I saw his work in Tate Britain a couple of years back where he got professional runners to run down the long corridor of Tate every minute and it was mesmerising! Such a simple idea and something that would normally be classified as being 'contemporary' to be put into Tate Britain put the work in a completly different context. It was purely about looking at the human figure, just like the more traditional fine art. His work is simple and well...lovely! And this bell one sounds just like that!
Thanks for posting this!
Friday, actually.
Work No. 1197: All the bells in a country rung as quickly and as loudly as possible for three minutes by Turner Prize-winning artist and musician Martin Creed is a London 2012 Festival commission and will be performed by you.
