Summary of discussion: (Notes, ideas, further questions, conclusions, recommendations for actions to take, contact details of relevant people / organisations etc)

Belief that there is a shortage of places to support work that is being produced in wales. So many venues have been lost so has the drive to support work.

Question of acw role in supporting this and discussion over how some work has limited difference between its R and D and then final output.

Discussion over the large amount of work being created or drive to make work but that unfortunately three times a year companies and individuals are fighting against each other for acw funding when actually they would like to be working together.

CAN MORE VENEUS HELP THIS WORK? CAN THERE BE MORE CO-PRODUCTION?

What does support mean?

Rehearsal space, tech support, administration? Marketing

Territorial attitude does not work, this needs to be broken down to venues can work together.

One issue faced by prducers is the widely varying vensus and facilities. There seemed to eb a better understanding of the technical capabilities of the venues and what would work and where. Has this been lost?

Creu Cymru exists in order to do this, howee is there is gap between the prsesnters and the producers.

Can veneus promote what work they want to book more. More of a joint up effort

Potential solutions

Solutions to lack of experimental and quality work been shown could be an agency that works to find strong up and coming work and can present these to venues. Programmers lack the time and opportunity to dedicate to one art form so an agency could create a level of trust in the work.

Could a ‘love theatre’ scheme of sorts be created where people that believe I the theatre and developing work in Wales, say £5 per year to create a agency/promoter for this type of work, or supporting other research and communication between venues and artists?

La public Space – How this is working in the community there to create a buzz. It is not just about putting the work on but developing a thirst for it and also taking in the wider environment.

TOURING PLATFORM

Venues could potentially have a monthly event where they provide tech support that people can try and see new work. The ‘agency’ we suggested could find this work and bring it to the venues. Building a habitual opportunity for people who are intrigued by new work and can start to break down the fear element that can stop venues being brave and in turn their audience.

Gerald Tyler will add a “pitch” of how this platform idea might work and add it to this body of notes at a later (not too late) date.
