Original title of ‘working mums’ needed to be changed as part of wider problem as seeing females as main caregivers
Scheduling of theatre productions- why the 7:30 industry norm? Who set this and can we look at shifting that and scheduling theatre at different times of the day ie 5:30 so working parents home for bedtime? Or lunchtime?
We need more parents in leadership roles so that these things are considered.
Theatre as a whole problematic- even buying pre-booked tickets-could venues offer walk up tickets to parents who don’t want to pre-book in case something comes up?
More opportunities for flexible/job-share/part time across industry ie in on stage and backstage roles.
Setting a dream ‘family code’ for the future of Welsh Theatre:
-Time of shows shifted from 7:30 norm
-Duration of shows
-Cost prohibitive- working parents discount?
-Could venues offer space for buggies?
-Could venues offer ‘childcare’ packages- ticket to show, on site childcare etc for people who want to ‘escape’ from parenting for the evening?
-More ‘relaxed’ productions so that children can come along with additional option of ‘quiet zone’?
-No 6 day weeks – more options across board for flexible working enabling staff to have the weekend as the weekend
-the respect for the right to ‘not’ be at work – if emergency crops up staff can leave
-treating partners equally
-Possibility for new branch of nurseries that caters to the unpredictability of freelance/theatre work and that runs past the 5pm norm?
-Breastfeeding to be seen as the norm in rehearsal rooms, office space, basically everywhere
