cardigan quays festival its raining but its all going on stalls food funfair music people fish boats.the word is the show aint gonna happen ,its to wet, windy and then its back on.the quay has got the worlds only straight amphitheatre so the start of the show is a bit here and there as two clowns tell the story of branwen who was took to ire land with the promise of being a princess but was badly treated and ended up scivying in the kitchen then got freindly with some birds who flew back to wales with the news causing bran the giant to go to rescue her.being a giant he layed down in the sea and his men were able to cross over to ireland by walking over him as if he were a bridge .the bridge became a resounding theme in the show as it was perfomed against a background of cardigan bridge and the idea of a leader being a bridge for and amongst the different tribes of the nation was at the core of this spectacular, funny and moving piece.

after this short intro a parade of surreal three wheeler bikes arrived with bran in kit form .the mythology of bran lends itself to spontaineous interpretations and this one has him dismembered and his various parts spread to the four corners of the earth .this present ritual has them all brought back together and this is the healing of bran .what follows is a sort of flat pack comedy of gigantic proportions with missing limbs ,holby heart starting and the arrival of his head in a boat rowed by a mysterious monk. the woman next to me sighed with relief at this point saying that it was worse than when her husband attepted to assemble a flat pack bookshelf.at last the giant was whole and was raised up on a scaffold ,took a stroll along the quay towering over the crowd and looking very pleased with himself,he is a very handsome giant.all during the show the action was accompanied by a large and harmonious choir who sang beautifully and gave another dimesion to this fully integrated and realised work of Art.
