The Beautiful Game, Young Sports Critics

FREE first step into sports journalism

Do you get a kick out of talking about the beautiful game? If you fancy tackling a career in sports journalism, Bridgend County Borough Council could have the perfect opportunity to help you reach your goal.

The council’s Arts and Community Development team is inviting young people aged 15-25 to cast a critical eye over the friendly between Wales and Ireland at the Cardiff City Stadium on Wednesday 14 August.

The budding journalists will gain writing hints and tips in a sports journalism workshop, before putting their new skills to the test as the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Gareth Bale and Ashley Williams lead Wales into battle with Giovanni Trapattoni’s men in green.
The workshop forms part of the Arts and Community Development team’s wider Young Critics scheme, which offers expert guidance to young people to explore the arts critic role and discover new ways of expressing their views on arts performances in South Wales.
Councillor Lyn Morgan, Bridgend County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, said: “Lots of people wear their heart on their sleeve when it comes to sports, but while many people talk a good game, writing a good game is a more difficult craft to master.

“The county borough is rich with creative and gifted young individuals, and it’s great that the Arts and Community Development team is helping to nurture their talent through providing these wonderful opportunities.”

Participants will be meeting at the stadium at 6pm and will complete the sports journalism workshop before kick-off at 7.45pm. for more information about the Young Critics scheme, or to book your place on the sports journalism workshop, contact Guy O’Donnell, Arts Development Officer on 01656 642727, or email guy.odonnell@bridgend.gov.uk.
