Almost everyone I know or speak to feels disillusioned, disengaged, disempowered by the state of our political system, and that it’s broken. I’m really interested in politics and our democratic process, yet the first time I voted was this year, 2014 (I’m 38). Personally, I often feel completely powerless and unable to do anything about the state of my community, my county, my planet. Hopefully, The Big Democracy Project will, in some way, enable me and others people to perform, debate and take action on issues that affect all of us.

Everyday I log on to twitter or see a post on facebook and ask myself HOW CAN THEY DO THAT? Beit selling our blood supply to venture capitalists, going to war despite a million people marching against it (potentially an illegal war) and I ask myself is this democracy, what can I do?

Who do we look to for answers Con/Lib/Lab? Are they all the same? Who do they work for? Do they work for us?  Is it by design that people feel so disenfranchised? - these are all question that I ask myself regularly.

I ask myself what can I do, what can we do?

We have launched the phase of Assembly – The Big Democracy Project.

Assembly is a great way for artists and communities explore and debate issues that are important locally and nationally and a great way for NTW to meet with different people from across Wales.

Now we are inviting proposals to produce four events over the next 12 months. Starting in North Wales, then moving on to South, Mid and finally west Wales. At the core of the Big Democracy Project we want to ask ‘How can we create the Wales we want?’ and what are we going to do about it?

I know that what ever comes out of the next twelve months will be a drop in the ocean but a river starts with a raindrop, right? (I love a water metaphor me)
