The Importance of 'What's On ' to the Community

3. WHATS ON

I promised that I would deliver weekly bog posts about the changes to the Community 2.0 weeks turned into months but I promise over these next two weeks I will post two blogs about changes to the 'Whats On' section and changes to the 'Groups' as promised.

This week’s blog is all about the What’s On section. The What’s On calendar now takes prime position at the top of the homepage, and will feature all events taking place that day.

With your help, the What’s On section will become the go-to cultural calendar for Wales and beyond. We encourage all individuals and companies, large and small, to add their events and let the community know what’s on.

To add your event, click here or click on the Add an events tab at any time. The only required information is the date, time and location but we encourage you to add an image and as much information as you like about the event.

The only thing we do ask is that if you’re running a long-term course or event, that perhaps runs once a week for three months, the  What’s On section is not used to share these events. This is because they will show up at the top for their entire duration, and be confusing to people who want to know what they can go and see that day.

We definitely welcome announcements and sharing of information about courses and long-term events, but the best way to share them is with a blog post or perhaps in a specific group (if, for example, the course is most relevant to Actors). If you are running a course, perhaps the participants would like to have a group set up to share their journeys together. You can create a group here.

If your event is touring to several venues and won’t be on every night, please create a separate event for each location. This is partly for the same reason as above, and also because it is possible to search for events by location and you don’t want someone in Aberystwyth missing your show because it was in ‘Cardiff’ in the search listings! Once you have created an event for the first venue on the tour it’s easy to duplicate it for the other venues. Just click ‘Options’ at the top of the event page.
