The Lovers

Setting: Living room, couple on sofa.

John: Are you tired?

Sally: Is that a metaphor?

John: Yeah.

Sally: Oh, well in that case, no, I’m not.

John: But I’m really tired.

Sally: And I’m really not.

John: You haven’t been tired in weeks. What’s up?

Sally: If you must know...I’m pregnant. See what tiredness does for you?

John: How long have you known?

Sally: Since yesterday. This will need talking about, a fundamental shift in our lifestyles. John? Are you listening?

John: Yeah, I’m thinking.

Sally: What about?

John: Whether you’re really tired or not.

Sally: If I were you, I’d go and be tired by myself for five minutes.

Scene ends.
