Today sees us start rehearsals for 'The Mountaintop' by Katori Hall, the first time the play has been staged in Wales. We are putting it on at The Other Room, taking the play back to an intimate theatre space where it started life.

Whilst inevitably there is the first day feelings of nervousness- I am also extremely excited. We have an outstanding team of people from our 2 performers, to our creative team and producers, to all of the supportive staff at The Other Room, to the education and engagement team, who will work tirelessly over the next 5 weeks to bring this show to fruition.

We are aware that our show is coinciding with The Young Vic and the JMK winner Roy Alexander Weise putting on this production. This feels me with even more joy and certainty that this was the right show to be staging at this point in time. The relevance and themes explored in the play are just as important today as they were when the play was written in 2009. However this also fills me with sadness and frustration as it clearly shows that progress is slow and some of the issues addressed should not be issues in 2016, yet they still are!

It is important that we use the arts to instigate and engage in conversations about the issues which are prevalent in our local and global communities and this show certainly allows us to do that. However more importantly the art we make needs to instigate some change, however small it may be!

So whether you see it here in Cardiff or you see it in London - please come and see the show!
