Volcano Film night | 26th February | 19.30

We will be kicking off our Birthday Party celebrations with Pete Telfer's film Walking to the Summit, commissioned as part of the Emergence Summit.

LAND JOURNEY- WALKING TO THE SUMMIT Pete Telfer (2012)

26 February, 19:30
In the five days leading up to Emergence Summit at the Centre for Alternative Technology in September 2012, two groups of delegates travelled to Machynlleth on foot, walking 12-14 miles each day over challenging terrain. The Land Journey was designed, mapped and curated by Welsh artist Simon Whitehead , and was punctuated by daily interventions from local artists or other people connected to the particular landscapes of the journey. The Land Journey connected with people and places in creative and unfamiliar ways, providing an opportunity for deepened dialogue, concentration and reflection upon the things we take for granted. The film will be introduced and discussed by Simon Whitehead and Fern Smith, with Q&A chaired by Tim Bartlett.

Pete Telfer’s beautifully-composed film captures the movement and the stillness of the journey and the breathtaking beauty of the country through which it moves, and allows the stories of the walkers and the people they meet to unfold in an understated, collaborative narrative. Pete is founder of the cultural networking site Culture Colony. Additional camera by Dan Gifford; music by Ansuman Biswas. 66 minutes.
