WE’RE STILL HERE

Casting Breakdown

WE’RE STILL HERE by Rachel Tresize is a play about 5 steelworkers at the time of the Save Our Steel campaign in 2016.  Inspired by conversations with steelworkers, union members and the wider community, We’re Still Here will be the first theatrical response to one of the biggest recent news stories in Wales – which resonates with steel towns the world over – and will feature evocative soundscapes and visual feats in a jaw-dropping setting. It is a co-production between National Theatre Wales and Common Wealth, and will be directed by Common Wealth directors Evie Manning and Rhiannon White. The movement director is Vicki Manderson. The play will be performed at the Byass Works in Port Talbot.

WE’RE STILL HERE is a state of the nation play that looks at the town of Port Talbot and working class leaders.

It explores masculinity, pride, solidarity and the fight, and the idea that people can make change.

Overall dates are 14 August – 30 September.

Casting Dates and NTW Casting Policy:

Every project is unique and NTW auditions to discover the most talented performers who connect to the company’s values and can help us to create extraordinary work. In doing so, NTW is flexible but committed in pursuit of the following priorities across each project:

  • Creating opportunities for performers who are Welsh, based in Wales or professionally trained in Wales.
  • Casting inclusively, promoting equality of opportunity in the arts and authentically representing Wales’ diverse communities.

Additional needs:

We will strive to make any required provisions, at interview and at work, to ensure that everyone has equal access to this opportunity. If you’d like to discuss your needs, please don’t hesitate to be in touch.

Our first week of meetings will be w/c 29 May, and will be held in Cardiff.

If you have the relevant skills and experience and are excited about this project, please send your CV, a recent headshot and a little something about why you'd like to be involved in this project (no more than 100 words) to casting@nationaltheatrewales.org before 6pm on the 18th May.

The performance will include audience close to the action, loud music and working at heights. All performers should have an awareness of movement and physical theatre skills, and be strongly collaborative performers. All actors should have good singing voices, though we do not necessarily need trained singers.
