In 2011 I was not able to gain a place at a drama school. Even after many a strenuous audition and making it through to last group for Bristol Old Vic I was not able to gain a place! I am currently trying to get an agent and going round thetres asking for experience so I can get as much experience as I can before trying again for Drama schools next year. Wondering if anyone had any advice on the matter? Also if anyone Knows any good modern comedic monologues for my age? I am 18.

Unofficially!!! Drama Schools think that you are too young at 18 and want you to have life experience (I am a lecturer and know that this is common practice at the Drama Colleges) if you would like we run a foundation degree in Drama Creative Industries - Bridgend College contact smjames@bridgend.ac.uk - explain your situation, - its 2 years and then you can go on to top up and get the full degree at any Uni - many choose Glamorgan. OR!!! Students I have taught will go back to something like this - get their auditions up to standard during the year, perform in shows etc... and reapply - when they get in they then leave whatever course they have been doing as a stop gap and to improve their work etc... and go on to be very successful at the chosen Drama School.

Hi Tobias,

The same thing happened to me when I was 18 - I got rejected from about five drama schools and eight universities! I went back and tried again the next year and got lots of offers for uni - and so went for that option. I spent my year working for a theatre company, directing a youth theater and playing in bands. Ok so I had very little money, but I learnt a hell of a lot that year and I don't think it's done me any harm.

Join the actors group on this site and you'll find that quite a few people will put up casting calls there, as well as putting up blog posts about projects they're doing.
