HI to everyone Scotty and I met and had the pleasure of working with. We are back now in the land of the long white cloud (AOtearoa/NZ). We are going to meet on Thursday to start to put together some first ideas of how we could come back and work in Wales...we would love any thoughts you might have. As you know from our workshops we work over longer periods of time..so if we were to come back we would like to work more in that way. We also have "live ins" where we often stay together, sleeping in a big shared space, cook together and be together. We thought this might be a good way to share stories and work together if we were to come back..what do you think?...ok I look forward to hearing from anyone...hope you are all well and happy....samx

Hey Sam

Sorry for late response.

I think 'live ins' / residencies would be quite an exciting idea.

What do others think?  Where should te residency take place? Who should be invited?

Sounds like a really special place to start. I led a few projects with live ins and did some projects at the end of my visit with the marae but only stayed in one on a kayaking trip down the Whanganui. Somehow I never had a hangi so that would be fab! I think Scotty is right and by sharing in this way and through a informal process am sure this kind of approach will inspire everyone to share back. Seeing Cantonese and Welsh young people respond to their first experience of a haka and waitata in Hong Kong is a very memorable moment that provoked a lot of conversation! By spending real time together we will be able to explore Wales beyond stereotypes. Talk more soon, Sarahx

HI Sarah, i hope the community event went well...and yes please email or skype me regarding further discussion on the work. I am glad you think the live in could be a way to work together...its based on our Marae live in's here...did you ever do a Marae stay? Scotty thought it would be a good way for him to bring an aspect of Tangata Whenua to Wales. Maybe we even put down a hangi when there? We have some other experiential ideas as well we would like to bring so that people have the chance to show us "their Wales"...in the past we have found that sometimes the best place or places to hear and be told stories is when doing something else and stories "slip out"...so we would like to issue a provocation that would allow people to take us (and others) to places or people etc that capture their Wales for them. Ok talk soon....take care samx

Hi Sam, Glad to hear you made it back safely. It was really great to meet you again and experience some of your approach and would love the opportunity to work alongside you over a longer period. I ran some of the exercises with a group last Tuesday and from that work we devised a very short work in progress moment which is being shared at a community event tonight! I will be emailing to clarify some aspects as like you said the time was super limited! I think a live in would be a great way to exchange practise and ensure we were able to maximise the opportunity of a further visit. From my experience residentials allow you to get to know people much quicker and it would be a excellent way to explore similarities, difference and begin to work together. This approach would also be a fantastic way to involve artists and practioners from across the country so could have further positive repercussions after you had gone. It could be the starting point for a collaboration between Welsh companies and Massive and companies within Wales. It would achieve some of the other tings we talked about in the chat after. It could be a starting point for work to be performed at a youth theatre festival too. Maybe the live in could be influenced by the space/site and we could create an enviroment during the week that others could engage with on some level even if they weren't staying???
