We've just come to the end of the first week of The Birthday Party at Volcano in Swansea. it's been an incredible week - getting the installation 'Inside The Volcano' open to the public, doing workshops with groups from Swansea, Llanelli, Neath & Port Talbot, showing the Emergence film (Walking to the Summit) and opening THREE new shows! Phew...Just three more weeks to go!
If you don't yet know...The Birthday Party is a month of performance, history and celebration. Volcano has ransacked its archive to bring you an interactive, retrospective adventure based on its 25-year history. With a whole host of Volcano people old and new. The project is based at Volcano HQ at 229 High Street Swansea, and features a walk-in experience, performances and events. Over the next three weeks until march 23rd there is an incredible amount on offer including;
INSIDE THE VOLCANO
Take a journey through the heart of the company at 229 High Street, in a series of interconnected volcanic chambers created from Volcano's archives by designer Guðný Hrund Sigurðardóttir. Free exhibition - simply drop in during opening hours.
Six specially commissioned pieces, by some of the people who have made the company what it is. Presented in double bills at 229 High Street.
Two film nights, with introductions and discussions by some of the artists and participants.
A walk to Mumbles, and two explorations of contemporary theatre practice.
A programme of workshops, in partnership with Welsh universities and colleges.
