Profile Information

What I do:
Journalist, director, story-teller, and co-founder of Dirty Protest Theatre
A little more about me:
I love to direct - I'm an experienced directing assistant producer and journalist with the ability to produce and direct creative films on a wide range of subjects, from short consumer investigations to longer obs films. And I'm skilled at taking a film from research stage through scripting, directing and to the final edit.

I'm a skilled storyteller - From print to television the key is being able to tell a story to an audience and provoke a reaction. From investigative journalism where I went undercover to expose to fake cancer treatment practitioner to an obs series following South Wales Police or Masterchef finalists Larkin Cen and Dale Williams as they set up their first business, I know what a story is, and crucially, how to tell it

I'm bursting with ideas - I have always been known as someone who is a fountain of ideas. I love coming up with the germ of an idea and seeing it blossom into an article or television show. It's a good job I have found myself in an industry that always wants more and more ideas. I have extensive experience at generating, developing and pitching new ideas for BBC, both network and Wales, and crucially winning commissions. I'm comfrotable jumping between daytime to formatted programmes, presenter led to access driven obs doc. I'm never without my notebook or a pen to scribble down something that gives me inspiration for the next bunch of ideas.

I'm good with people - I have more than 10 years experience in the media which has seen me work in print, radio, television and theatre. And being good with people is one of the most important skills to master. I'm as comfortable working with talent and presenters as I am creating relationships with interviewees and building trust with individuals and organisations, often in challenging and testing situations.

I'm creative - I have always been very creative and this is evidenced in my work and also all the extras that I love to do in my spare time. I have a visual eye and also a keen knack for practical problem solving.

I can do the techy side - Trained in self-shooting including Canon 305, sound recording and rough cutting on AVID. I am also learning Final Cut Pro

Anything else - I was chosen as a member of the Ones to Watch 2011 scheme and also as one of the first applicants for BBC Wales Creative Production Course. Am currently Ones to Watch ambassador.

In my spare time I run a jewellery and bridal accessories business. I design and make jewellery under the business name of Clarissa Says and also produce an exclusive bridal range of hats and accessories for Rachel Burgess Bridal Boutique, Penarth

I am also the co-founder of Welsh theatre company Dirty Protest Theatre, commissioning new plays from established and emerging talent since 2007. My skills in marketing and social media have ensured the company is always making waves, you should see our Facebook stats.

Here's a few words from Tim Price about why we are putting on this night

Hi Claire,

My name's Laura and I'm a student at Swansea University. I'm a few months into a PhD looking at how theatre could be used to help young people in Wales connect with the political process. I'm looking for case studies for my thesis and I know that Dirty Protest do a lot of politically-driven work; I was just wondering if you had any such projects coming up in 2013 and, if so, whether you would mind me sitting in on the development stages? Of course, I'd be happy to meet up with you beforehand and tell you more about my research, if that's of interest?

Look forward to hearing from you,

Best wishes, Laura
