For a 'day job' I'm Head of Widening Participation at Kingston University. I'm passionate about writing and am currently studying for an MA in Scriptwriting. I'm keen to aspire as many people as possible to engage at some level in the creative arts. I've recently written a play for stage. I truly believe it only takes one positive moment in a persons experience to change their lives forever. I hope the Serendipity Project will provide that moment through providing an inspiring environment where individuals can shine through the performing arts.
My project will target young people living within a socially deprived area and introduce and inform the young people of a diverse range of disciplines within the theatre industry and promote higher education in general and the Arts specifically.
My stage play Serendipity Cottage was inspired by the social and cultural heritage of this Derbyshire community in which I grew up. . I identify many auto/biographical influences in terms of the development of the plot, characters and geography of the piece. The play is a real mix of ideas based on my life experiences and stories from my parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, as well as some postgraduate research I have done on working class writing.
