With a BA Hons Drama/English and PGCE Secondary Drama I am currently studying for an MA Creative Practices in Education at the University of Chester. With extensive experience in theatre, education and business sectors I have been a self-employed theatre practitioner, director, playwright and performer for over 20 years, as well as teaching Drama and English both in the UK and abroad. For a number of years I worked extensively with Careers Wales as a Facilitator and Business Advisor, creating drama workshops linked to Pathways – the government incentive for 14-18 year old careers provision. Inspired by the concept of the Labyrinth, I devised a series of workshops called ‘The Lab’ which are designed to explore themes such as - Values for Life, Philosophy and Discovering a World View - with all age groups.
In my role as a Theatre Workshop Director, I have worked for Clwyd Theatr Cymru, Cheshire Youth Theatre, Dramart Productions, and Stagecoach. More recently, my work took me to the United Arab Emirates, where I planned and delivered a 4 week English Language through Drama course at the American University Sharjah. Whilst there I was invited to present a proposal to deliver drama based workshops for the Al Qasimi Foundation, to work in prisons and with groups of young people.
Using my wealth of experience of devising and creating theatre, I wrote my first play – Hacked Off (60 minutes) – in 2005 when it was performed as a rehearsed reading at the Crown Hotel, Denbigh. I went on to perform the play as a rehearsed reading at various venues in North Wales, the Republic of Ireland and Crete. I have also presented her poems as a Performance Poet at venues in Chester and North Wales. In recent years my focus has been working as a theatre practitioner whilst looking for opportunities to bring 'Hacked Off' off the page and into performance. I have also been working on a series of flash plays based on my performance poetry – Snap Shots and Drip, Drip and three 60 minutes plays – The Rebecca Syndrome, Bliss and Nuts.
