Free Fall Productions in partnership with Ysbryd London are currently casting for our upcoming production of House of America by Welsh Playwright Ed Thomas.

We regret that this project is unpaid, however are offering £200 towards expenses and are happy to work with performers to give flexibility in rehearsals.

Synopsis
This is Wales .This is the Lewis family. This is the House of America.
Abandoned by their father for a new life in California, siblings Sid, Gwenny and Boyo are left to care for their mysterious mammy and her growing eccentricities. With the new mine encroaching in on the family home, their secrets are unearthed and dreams of America soon unravel. As tragedy unfolds, was reality ever what it seemed?
Explosive and passionate, House of America received international acclaim when first staged in Cardiff in 1988. It later transferred to the Royal Court Theatre in 1989 before being made into a feature film in 1996. Ed Thomas’s other work includesHinterland / Y Gwyll shot in Welsh and English for S4C and BBC Wales. He is also the founding member and creative director of Cardiff based film and TV production company Fiction Factory.

Roles:
Sid Lewis – Male – (25-35)
Eldest son of the Lewis family. Attractive and slim. Working class, larger than life dreamer. Charismatic leader with a poetic tongue. Wants to leave the family’s Valleys home in search of a better life in America. Has a love for the writing of Jack Kerouac. South Wales accent.
Mam – Female – (35-45)
Head of the Lewis household. Small but fiery. Working class. A woman with a secret. She has kept the family together in the absence of their father. Strong, single minded. Mam sees everything. The encroaching mine disturbs her during the course of the play. South Wales accent.
Labourer – Male (35-55)
Large, imposing. Working class. Recently employed in the local mine. Has had a tough life. Constantly questions his place in the world and where he has gone wrong. Full of regrets. South Wales accent.
