Be part of an event - A Garden That Inspired Change

"When all women stand together to protect, inspire and raise each other, then a new power will arise on earth."
Laura McLaren

Laura McLaren, Lady Aberconwy (1854–1933), was a leading Liberal suffragist. The daughter of Agnes Heap Pochin, who spoke at the first ever public suffrage meeting in 1868, Laura quickly became an activist in the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies, founding the Liberal Women’s Suffrage Union and, in 1910, leading a deputation to Downing Street to confront Prime Minister Asquith about his opposition to women’s rights.

On September 19th 2018 The National Trust Bodnant Garden will partner Pigtown Theatre CIC, Amnesty International, WNO, and many other local organisations to launch a season of events aimed at bringing life to the words of Laura McLaren.

The launch event sees a modern day Laura, guest speakers, local activists, volunteers, and community groups gathering a crowd to march with them through the very landscape that Laura helped create. The ever changing physical landscape of Bodnat Garden, and the political landscape which changed a nation.

This is a wonderful opportunity for local women and men to embrace the power of Laura's life and work. We are looking for people who would like to join us in this. If you are willing to help in any way as a performer, volunteer or activist, or all three, do get in touch. Because doing nothing is what they want you to do...
