WalesLab information

WalesLab was NTW's initiative for supporting emerging artists and new ideas for performance. This is a group and discussion forum for those artists involved in WalesLab or those interested in learning more about the various projects under development.

WalesLab consisted of:

Summercamp:

A summer camp for up to twenty theatre makers and artists of varied experience to share ideas, learn form each other and stimulate new collaborations and projects (watch the video below to find out more).

WalesLab projects -

Small groups working for around 1-2 weeks based somewhere in Wales.

Germinate:    Three times a year small groups of artists will be offered the opportunity to spend around two weeks somewhere in Wales developing an idea or project which they have already begun working on, and will share their work with a local audience. There will be three Germinate projects a year, one of which will have an international element.

WalesLab is no longer open for new submissions. Have a look at the 'Your Work' page on the NTW website to find out about how to share your ideas with the company.

Huddles are up and running!

We have recently held our first Artist Huddle. It went brilliantly (i'm glad to say!)

One of the things to cone out of the session was a feeling that there should be a place to post further information coming out to the sessions themselves so we've started a Huddles page on the Community especially for this purpose. You can also use it to tell us what you think we should be discussing at future Huddles.

Take a look at the group (and join) here: http://nationaltheatrewales.org/huddles

CASTING CALL:
We are looking for 1 male and 1 female performer for a new project that's been developed through WalesLab, National Theatre Wales ,directed by Matt Ball and inspired by the short story ‘Light is Like Water’ by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

“How do lights work?” asks my nephew. “Light is like…” Be careful how you answer. If you tell a child that light flows like water they might take you literally, and end up drowning in the shimmering stream that flows from the smashed lightbulbs. Step aboard, as we navigate the incandescent torrents, and allow your sense of wonder to be awakened. Working collaboratively with performers, puppeteers, lighting, sound & set designers, we’re diving into the unknown, to make a new piece for touring in 2015.

We are looking for versatile, male and female Wales based performers to join our team. They need to be open, hard working professionals who are used to the demands devising and working as an ensemble.  Ideally, one of the performers would have some experience of working with puppets, or object manipulation.
The week of development will be from December 8-12 at Llanover Hall, Cardiff.

In order to be considered please send a headshot and your cv to niawj@yahoo.com by 5pm on Friday, November 21st

We look forward to hearing from you.

People of the WalesLab group - info on our first Artist Huddle is here. Take a look and sign up (only 40 places available)

In case you are wondering what a Huddle is, its our new initiative designed to support the development of skills contributing towards the professional lives of artists, beyond the rehearsal room.

great to have lots of stuff gathered in one place and I struggle a bit with the aesthetic of storify/facebook, makes me nostalgic for physical photo albums, books and other-than-digital-artefacts - memories are hard to document, especially the significant ones xx
