Do you dutifully start typing only to be tempted to dive into Instagram, or start cleaning the kitchen, or Skype an old friend…?

Zenpens is an exciting new writer’s retreat based in Cardiff City Centre. Adapted from the Writer’s Army workshops lead by the New York playwright Anne Washburn, Zenpens allows writers to concentrate solely on their work in meditative silence.

Togetherness is a spur . The presence of other writers can allow you to work longer and more productively than you normally would and helps to move you through periods of inattention and malaise.

Cool, so how does it work?

Zenpens is a one day silent writers retreat. No phones. No social media. No distractions.

Meeting at 9:45 am for a short debrief and writing exercises, we start working in earnest at 10 am until 1 pm. An hour lunch. Then more silent writing from 2 pm until 6 pm.

The most important rule is that everyone starts and leaves at the same time. It’s a quiet space, but most importantly it’s a space where everyone is working steadily together.

We also ask that people not work during lunch. Periods of not working and switching off completely are vital for overall productivity.

What’s on offer?

A supportive space to begin something new or rehash something old.

New networking possibilities.

Writing exercises to boost creativity.

Free tea and coffee facilities.

How much?

Money collected at the retreat is used to pay for the space and its upkeep. If you can, please pay the suggested donation of £8 or £5 concession.

This sounds right for me, when’s the next one?

Zenpens will be taking place on the 20th April at the John Dennithorne Room, Quaker Meeting House, 43 Charles Street, Cardiff CF10 2GB.

How can I get in touch?

Spaces are limited, so please email your interest to Paul Stoyle at zenpenssilentretreat@gmail.com or visit https://zenpens-silentwritersretreats.yolasite.com/ for more information.

Best wishes,

Zenpens.

Call-out for External Project Evaluator

Since 2012, The Gravida Project has been exploring maternity, mental health and creativity through multimedia artwork and performances. Maternal mental health is a huge issue, with one in four new mothers encountering depression and anxiety.

The base of this project is the belief that creativity, and the body in movement have a capacity for self-healing, generating awareness and wellbeing that is necessary for supporting future generations.

In 2019 and 2020 we will be creating and touring a multimedia dance experience to venues across Wales. We are very excited to also be delivering community workshops, Q&As, online discussions and other artistic events. Through this activity we will enable the public to truly become involved with the artistic-therapeutic aspect of the project. We also aim to stimulate public debate around Wales of the perception and treatment of pregnancy.

Gravida has already begun some vital conversations, and started to make waves in national media. We’re now looking for an external evaluator to work with us as we move into this next phase, to help us assess the impact of our work on audiences, communities and public discourse.

Our friends at ieie Productions have a brilliant opportunity for TEAM members based in Cardiff next week!

They are producing a new short form drama series for S4C about a true crime obsessed Cardiff Millennial. It’s hugely ambitious, the scripts are brilliant and they are doing it on a shoe string budget...so if any one fancies getting involved and helping out by being an extra for free but rewarded with lots of gratitude and the chance to be part of something very special that would be amazing!

They need:

A few ‘yummy mummies’ on Monday 19th Nov

A Book Launch crowd for Weds 21st, Thurs 22nd and Fri 23rd Nov

A Pub Crowd on Monday 26th Nov

A Six Nations Night on Tues 27th, Weds 28th, Thurs 29th Nov

A House Party on Weds 5th, Thurs 6th, Fri 7th December

If you are interested then please drop them an email - merchedparchus@gmail.com
