Pieces of Hate

Pieces of Hate was a 12 month project dealing with the subject of hate crime towards people with physical and learning disabilities. The process involved over 60 individuals from South and Mid Wales, working closely with the writer Philip Michell and Director/Actor John Norton, in creating pieces based on the groups opinions and experiences of the subject. The piece was performed at Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff, by 14 members of Theatr Ffynnon and was based around 5 real incidents which happened to various members of the company.

“If you hate a person, you hate something in him that is part of yourself” Socrates.

Cluttering

Theatr Ffynnon and Sherman Cymru Youth Theatre present “Cluttering”

d-d-d–do y:ou re-really (h)ear m:e?

Through creative development, exploration and research, the performance will look to unravel what happens between the listener and speaker, when the “expectation of communication is violated” .

Enter a world of blackboards, chalk, talking, dancing, stories and loud music!

This has been an 8 month collaborative project between Theatr Ffynnon and Sherman Cymru through a series of workshops and residency, involving pupils from Crownbridge Special Needs School, participants from Sherman Cymru Youth Theatre, along with support from the staff from Torfaen Transitional Team and Youth Service.

 Friday 10 & Saturday 11 July @ 8pm

Choreographer/Director- Aleksandra Jones

Director /Producer – Patricia O’Sullivan

Creative Assistant – Lisa Harris

Larvae follows on from our dance /movement showcase “M: Brio”, which we presented in September 2014 at the Riverfront Arts Centre, Newport. Larvae is the 2nd phase of our project “Metamorfoza” and based on the 4 stages of human development.

Larvae is the story about our external world, reflected through our internal thoughts, feelings, dreams and memories which we experience through our lives. This dance and movement piece will focus on the internal changes reflecting our outward appearance, to build  a shape, structure, colour and pattern of the human body.

Are we looking to or are we are looking from? What can we see as an individual, and what can we see as a group? How do we use that experience for our own development and wellbeing? Our environment is our reflection, what we are doing about that?  Are we limited in self- expression? Do we really need a frame or structures? Are we really independent?

LARAVE will be performed  by nine of Theatr Ffynnon’s membership.

A Q & A session will held post performance.

@ Chapter Arts - 10/07/15 - 11/07/15

8pm

Tickets £8.50 & £ 7 concessions.

“An angel passed by. They are our memories. They are our remembering!”

You are invited to an open viewing on Friday 1st or 2, Friday 8 or 9thNovember at 6pm or 7.30pm.

Elaborate and exquisite stories are revealed in this elegant south facing property with some period features.  As you would expect in a property of this age there are some cracks and evidence of subsidence but we prefer to call them laugh lines.

Memories of past and present are brought to life in this site specific project where each room tells a different story.  A pair of maids prepare a ceremonial cup of tea, a man dreams of his golfing days, a daughter waits to see if her mother will ever return home whilst she is watched by three shadowy figures.  Funny, moving, with live music, drama and dance, “House for Sale” is about our sense of community and our need to belong.

“This production is about community and that sense of belonging we all wish to feel. What does community mean to you or I, in particular what does it mean to the members Theatr ffynnon work with? How do we create that sense of belonging; is it through family-ties, heritage, neighbourly interaction, our respective languages, cultural influences and diversity. What part can, and do our memories play in creating that sense of belonging?”

The journey to the property is short but please come prepared for outdoor weather.  Please also come prepared for an unforgettable world of delight!

Theatr Ffynnon is a unique Community Arts Theatre Company working primarily with young people and adults with learning difficultiesThere are 30 performers, (members of Theatr Ffynnon) from Risca, Abergavenny and Chepstow involved in this project and production, who have been working on creating & developing ideas for this site specific performance since February 2013. In addition to the Creative Director, James Williams, Aleksandra Jones, a choreographer from Serbia has been working with our members on dance & movement. Emily Haughton an incredibly talented flautist from Bristol has been working with the member on creating new compositions to support the pieces, along with improvised work developed in the workshops over this period.
