What Mess Up The Mess Theatre Company do!

Mess Up The Mess Theatre Company supports young people and the communities they live within to overcome the barriers that they meet - to create a greater equality for those:
• currently socially excluded
• who are disadvantaged, face discrimination or prejudice
• unable to take full advantage of existing opportunities for employment, education or training
• who are under employed, unemployed or in low waged jobs.
• not in education, training or employment

MUTM successfully uses theatre creatively to inspire and engage disadvantaged and hard to reach young people through transformative learning experiences. We empower them to:

• Express themselves, have their voices heard and celebrated
• Develop key transferable personal and social skills
• Play an active part in their community
• Make informed choices about the issues that affect their lives
• Reach their potential
• Have fun in a healthy environment

We motivate young people through bespoke bilingual creative projects and experiences that respond to their needs, concerns and interests and challenge them to take the lead. Project models include:

• Issue based workshops or productions from a play in a day to week long runs
• DVD or music projects
• Peer Leader Training
• Apprentice Theatre
• Accredited Performing Arts Training for young people at risk of exclusion/NEET
• Events Training
• Social Enterprise Support
• Life & Social Skills workshops
• Ready for work courses
• Work placements
• Mentoring schemes

Hi Sarah

Sorry not to get back to you yesterday. Am rehearsing really long days this week so am a bit incommunicado. However, will be on email late tonight. If you want to drop me an email with exactly what you're after (age, type etc) I'll try and get some suggestions sent over to you.

Hope all well.

Matthew

Sarah - this sharing day at The Sherman - is it the sort of thing that would be useful for me to be at?  If so do I need to reserve a place ( is it possible to be an observer??)

Hi Sarah,

Unfortunately I only just picked up your message saying that it would be fine to just turn up to the meeting at WMC today so I didn't come along - argh, I am annoyed with myself now! Hope it went well and was productive. I will look at the forum to find out what was discussed/decided upon moving forward. Is it possible to request that I am added to the database of Youth Arts practitioners that has been/is being developed. My email address is francescpickard@gmail.com. Thanks. I look forwrad to meeting you at some point in the future!

Hi Sarah, thanks for your invite to the casting and sorry for the really late reply (I haven't been on this for ages and ages)! I won't be free in feb as I'm doing NTW 'A Provincial Life'. Good Luck with it though and thank you for asking x

Hi Sarah - I'm running a conference in Wrexham next Thursday - hoping I might be back in time for some of Sandpit, but whether I make it will depend on how cold, tired, wet we've got during the conference which is on Outdoor Learning and Literacy and, therefore, is in a forest! I've also got meetings on Friday morning, so can't meet you then, even if you're staying over. I'll keep you posted re whether I'm going to make it to Sandpit!

Hi Sarah. Theatr Iolo is based in Cardiff in an old school in Mynachdy - near the Gabalfa Roundabout. I'm freelance, so my office when I'm not rehearsing or teaching is at home - almost literally next door to Chapter Arts Centre.

Yes, it would be great to meet up when you're in Cardiff sometime - not sure I'm going to get to Ammanford for a while. We're off on holiday on Monday until the end of August, but we're both back in Cardiff during September and for most of the autumn - so, let us know when you're going to be in Cardiff and we could get together. "Under the Carpet" isn't going to be touring again for a while - certainly not in Cardiff. We've revived it several times for festivals/theatres and we're now mulling over the various offers we've received to tour it again internationally/looking into funding etc. We'll be reviving another nursery show - "Finding Leaves for Soup" next Spring. Before that, I'm devising a piece for teenagers for Theatr Iolo with Gary Owen which will be touring from February and writing/directing an opera for 4-5 year olds for WNO - so I'll keep you posted re all of those projects. It would be good to know more about Mess Up the Mess too.

Look forward to meeting you. Sarah
