Event Description

As part of UNITY FESTIVAL 2010
brought to you by Hijinx Theatre in association with MENCAP Cymru and Wales Millennium Centre

The Democratic Set Residency
1st – 2nd July 2010

Back to Back Theatre is one of the foremost companies in the world working in inclusive theatre. Fresh from performing at the Barbican in London they will make their Welsh debut as part of Unity Festival, presenting The Democratic Set Residency, giving you the chance to work with this incredible and inspiring company.

The Unity Festival is a week-long celebration of arts created by all, to be enjoyed by all and is brought to you by Hijinx Theatre in association with MENCAP Cymru and Wales Millennium Centre - June 28 – July 4 2010.

The Democratic Set: The residency will involve 2 days of workshops creating a sharing performance which will be part film and part live to be presented in the Weston Studio at Wales Millennium Centre. Presented in a purpose-built set, each performance takes place in the same environment. The result is a visual forum that demonstrates how performance, as a way of reading the world can, like democracy, allow people to be seen, to speak and to be heard. This performance will be created with an inclusive group of 15, including actors both with and without learning disability or disability.

Taking part is free but places are limited and available via application. If you would like to be considered to take part please email ben.pettitt-wade@hijinx.org.uk for an application form to be returned by June 12th.

Please be aware that there is an age restriction of 18 plus and that places are limited. So hurry - apply for your place as soon as possible. Please be aware that this is not a paid residency.

If you don't want to be committed to doing the Residency - why not take part in the project by filming a portrait as part of the final production? Individual sessions with the director and film crew last 20 minutes - up to 15 people can be part of a group which then have a 40 minute slot for filming.... for more info - give Ben at call at the Hijinx Office on 02920 300 331 or email ben.pettitt-wade@hijinx.org.uk
