Profile Information

What I do:
Hijinx Theatre's mission is to produce, pioneer and promote stunning inclusive performances locally, nationally and internationally.
A little more about me:
We are a professional theatre company based at Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff who tour small scale theatre throughout the UK and Europe.

What makes us different is that our casts always include actors who have learning disabilities. The ability of these effortlessly talented performers is at the heart of every show we produce, creating work that is utterly absorbing, surprising and provocative.

We call it inclusive theatre because it makes much of the skills and raw talent of people who often get overlooked in today’s world and gives them a platform to make and perform stunning theatre alongside actors who don’t have disabilities.

Training actors with learning disabilities to perform at a professional level is also at the heart of our mission. We have established the only professional performance training in Wales for actors with learning disabilities: the first Hijinx Academy is in Cardiff and now we are rolling out Academies in other regions of Wales.
Location:
Cardiff
Projects I’m working on:
The Hijinx Pods - a brand new collection of one-act theatre pieces available for touring from Spring 2014 onwards.

Hijinx Theatre are thilled to present five highly interactive comic gems available to book on a pick n' mix basis: the much-loved Snooks Brothers Bank and Snooks Brothers Aquatic which have toured extensively in Europe and will be at Glastonbury 2014, The Waiting Room which premiered in Summer 2013, and brand new in 2014 Snoutology for Beginners and Flossie & Jet.

The Pods are performed by small casts of actors, clowns and street theatre artists both with and without learning disabilities, who together bring an utterly different and unforgettable experience to audiences.

Hi Ness,

A blog post is definitely a good idea, and I would post about it in the relevant Group to. For this one that's probably the Creatives group, or maybe Producers. Or both! If you pop it on a blog post I can feature it and it will be on the front page for a while then.

Now we hear from Prof Ian Hargreaves @CreativeCardiff - should more public bodies follow @NTWtweets approach, eschewing permanent iconic buildings and siting their work in the context of the communities they seek to work for?
