Profile Information

What I do:
Welsh Independent Dance (WID) is the national artist led organisation for independent dancers and choreographers primarily living and working in Wales. It exists to support, nurture and encourage excellence in dance, and develop a strong, vibrant and diverse dance sector.

The organisation provides a wide range of performance and professional development opportunities, to support the independent dance sector.

WID supports its members by providing them with a monthly newsletter that includes UK and worldwide listings, job opportunities, courses/workshops and general information. Other schemes include Go-C grants and Individual Training awards, which provide artists with financial support to organise their own training needs and see work.

WID’s extensive programme of activity is open to all dance artists, regardless of whether they are members. For many initiatives, members can attend at a reduced rate.

Ultimately, we aim to provide independent artists with appropriate professional development training, performance and choreographic opportunities to develop their own careers. We recognise the diversity of needs from the independent dance sector and strive to deliver a range of opportunities appropriate for artists are varied career points.

WID currently employs one full time (Development Officer) and two part-time (Co-ordinator and Administrator) members of staff and a number of freelance consultants and facilitators. The company is managed by a board of directors made up of dance artists, venue managers, educators and business professionals who meet on a quarterly basis.

WID is a revenue client of the Arts Council of Wales.
