I’ve seen a few of August 012’s work in the past, and had a bonkers experience as an audience member. Now, I’m working with Mathilde and the company as the assistant director to stage the farcical play which is YURI – and the first few days have most definitely been… boncyrs!

So far in the rehearsal room the wonderful and playful cast (Carys Eleri, Ceri Murphy and Guto Wynne Davies) have had me in stitches as they begin their journey exploring the surreal world. The chaotic dialogue, which is brilliantly adapted by Daf James (to English and Cymraeg for the first time EVER) is already gripping and jaw-dropping – and even though I’ve read the play a fair few times by now, I’ve found myself asking “did they ACTUALLY just say that!?”. You just wait…!

‘Da ni wedi cael LOT fawr o hwyl wrth i ni ddechrau archwilio’r byd swreal mae cymeriadau’r ddrama ynddi. Dw i’n gyffrous iawn bod y ddrama yn cael ei gyflwyno yn y Gymraeg ac yn Saesneg, ac heb os nac oni bai, mi fydd dau brofiad wahanol iawn i’w gynnig i gynulleidfaeodd Chapter ym mis Hydref! Mae’r iaith Gymraeg yn sicr yn ddyfais ddiddorol iawn yn y fersiwn Gymraeg, gyda’r cymeriadau yn ei defnyddio ambell waith er mwyn cael ‘one-up’ ar y llall.

I’m particularly excited that we’re offering this play, in English and Welsh for the first time – which will mean two very different experiences for audiences in Chapter this October.

We will be hosting an open rehearsal THIS Wednesday 16^th (2.30pm-4.30pm) @ Y Llofft, Chapter – croeso i bawb/anyone is welcome! Come and say hello, to tell us what you think, and be prepared for the cast to pick at you as they explore this non-fourth wall production… brace yourselves!
